Painted ceiling and all coats of paint underneath bubbled and peeled off! (Pictures)
Yesterday I started painting the ceiling in my living room. It looked to have a satin paint on it and I wanted a flat finish since there were drywall imperfections in the ceiling. The room has 4 decorative faux beams in it. I painted the first 2 sections of the ceiling (I prepped by wiping with a damp sponge and letting dry) and that went fine. When I did the third section I began to notice little bubbles that wouldn't roll out. After touching one, the area around it "collapsed" and all the paint began to come off like wallpaper. What is strange is not only did the paint I just painted come off including the layer I am painting over, but the paint underneath that also came off!
What happened here? I used Olympic ONE flat finish ceiling paint (acrylic I believe). Was I painting over oil based paint? The only thing that I can think of is that some sort of repair was done on the middle section of this ceiling because right where I pulled the skin of paint off in 2 areas, I noticed pencil marks someone had made on the drywall leading me to believe that they had marked these areas for repair.
