Paint under stove burners?

A family member decided the area under my stove burners (gas oven) were dirty when I moved into my house and painted with a non heat resistant paint. Now it is worse than ever because the paint turns darker every time I use the burners. I would like to fix it using the correct paint but am not sure what to buy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I am going to take a wild guess that it does not have removable drip pans...

In any case, the original finish on the stove should be porcelain enamel, as opposed to paint. That means that you can just paint thinner, stripper, acetone, whatever you need to, to get that paint off and your stove will not even notice. (Make sure it is all VERY dry, and then some, before lighting the stove or oven though...)

I am not sure there are any paints that you can replace it with though. I would think that even paints meant for grills or ovens are going to handle being a 1/4" away from open flame. There is a reason they don't use paint as the original finish, even though it would be cheaper.

Whoops! I meant "paints meant for grills or ovens AREN'T going to handle being 1/4" away from an open flame"

That's ok, I understood what you meant. Quick question though, so if I am able to remove the paint can I reapply new enamel to help improve the look?

Thanks again.

Nope,......... It's a Porcelain finish, Not a Paint....
