paint textured with crushed stone.

Hi Guys,

The paint on my house seems to have crushed stone in it. This gives it a textured look, I guess they did that because it is just paint on plywood. The paint is peeling, exposing the plywood, so I have to scrape and repaint. Can someone tell me how to paint with crushed stone and where to get the right stuff? I have checked Duron, Home Depot and Lowe's and no one seems to carry the crushed rock, a guy at Home Depot said they stopped carrying it because it didn't sell well. The pieces are around an eighth of an inch across and are mostly flat. Perhaps there is something else that would give the same look.

Well, I must say I've never seen that before
Must be a regional thing

Well, I can tell you HD and L's are the worst places for painting advice (and paint and painting tools)
I'd seek out a Ben Moore or Sherwin Williams dealer and ask them
If they don't have the products you need, they will have good advice for you

I got Roll-A-Tex, coarse, at a Ben Moore dealer. It looks like the right size and shape.

Glad to know someone else is trying this first......lol.

We got a STEAL of a deal on a house, but the siding is horrid and no matter what, painting will always be cheaper than siding the whole thing. The house has places where the wood has been patched and it has several different textures of siding on it. It is in the desert, southern cali. I have read about the roll-a-tex and even the guy at the paint store (Glidden) said he didn't see why it wouldn't work. The coarse type "says" it covers large cracks, yada yada. Please let me know how that turns out for you!! My husband is going to build me a hodge podge wall to see if my idea is going to work with the texture treatment. I figured as long as the paint was AWESOME then it would be great if the texture additive does what it says. I have read through some of this forum and I still am not sure what brand of paint I would need to use. Any suggestions ?

I'm familiar with the product
It works well...but never occurred to me that it could be used on exteriors

I checked the Technical Data Sheet, it say it's OK for ext.

For exteriors, I use one of Ben Moore's Moore Gloss/Soft Gloss or Sherwin Williams Duration
Zinsser says any paint with the texture, so I'd stick with one of those, or ask the Paint Store where you get the texture
