I got some pinewood doors want to replace our new interior doors. but for the old doors and cabines and even floor are all oak style. so I just think is there any way to paint pinewood doors and make it looks like oakwood?
do you have a scrap piece of pine? if you do, the best thing is to bring that piece along with one of the oak cabinet doors to your local paint retailer (a real paint store, not the big box places). they should be able to help you find a stain from a top brand like Old Masters, Minwax, or Zar that can match your cabinets.
once you have the right oak color, the other thing to consider is the grain. pine tends to have long vertical grains with an occasional knot, whereas oak is more circular. you may be able to simulate this with a wood graining tool. the paint store should have one. heres a picture of one that Zar makes.
it looks odd, but its pretty easy to use with a little practice, and it creates beautiful oak like grain.
