Paint over stain

Is there a way to paint over stained woodwork. I have colonial molding and want to avoid replaing it all, or worse, sanding it all.

Paint over stain

A light scuff sanding and a solvent-based primer and you can paint over them with a quality trim paint (I'd recommend a waterborne enamel)

Paint over stain

i agree. i'm painting the wood trim in my house white and we sanded it all. we probably sanded too much (my fiance can be a little anal with that sort of thing and ours is sanded down to the bare wood with 220 grit hehe).. sanding really doesnt take that that long if you have a good sander and have two people working. it made a difference when we went to prime. the primer goes on a lot easier on sanded trim as opposed to the unsanded trim (we tested a section first).
