Paint for jambs to seal the pitch in ?

Well I signed up today here at DIY and put a little bit up about me in the Intoductions Forum so I won't bothere you with those details here.I have a question regarding painting.I live in a home that is about 20 years old and the door jambs in the interior of the house have not been painted since it was first built. So I have started to paint the master bedroom which will include the doors and jambs. Now the jambs are made of pine andover the course of time the pitch has come through on some of the jambs, bubbled right up under the oil based paint. So I scraped all the paint and pitch off and will sand it smooth. My question is,what can I put on the jambs to seal the pitch in and prevent that pitch from coming through the paint again
Many Thanks

After 20 years one would think that the pitch has done all it is going to do. With that being said, the best thing IMO would be to sand, spackle, sand, prime all , sand, then paint all. Including all edges, sand, then do a final coat.

Do not forget to prime and paint the tops and bottoms of your doors!

I bought the Zinsser BIN! I have applied two coats to the bare wood, now that paint and pitch have been removed,
thanks for the information
