Paint drywall under tile???

I've got the new bathtub surround complete with 5 foot Durock around the tub and then sheetrock above it and to the outside of the tub. Outside being the tub is in an alcove that comes out 4 inches beyond the tub and then is in about 1 ft from each wall.

We are getting ready to prime and paint before doing the tile. Do I prime or not prime the drywall that will have tile on it? What about where I had to mud near the metal corner bead?

It's good to prime it. And I assume your mudded area is getting painted- yes, certainly prime it.
Don't prime the Durock.

I am tiling up to the metal/paper corner bead on the tub side. I mudded each side of the corner bead to make it smooth. Do I prime the tub side of the corner bead that was mudded and will be tiled over?

I would think yes, but you really should be asking your tile guy what he wants. Or are you also doing the tile?

I am my own tile guy. I will post in the tiling section if I don't get an answer here.

Yep---as long as you have the brush and roller out---prime the drywall---no harm if you don't
but it couldn't hurt---

As Brushjocky said---don't prime the Durrock----

Main thing you want to think about is what will help the tile mastic stick. It will stick better to a prime ( that is well adhered..) than to straight mud. Durock is a perfect substrate for tile mastic- no need to do anything.

That's what I was looking to hear. I will go ahead and prime the drywall.

Thanks.
