Paint bubbling up in kitchen

While repainting my kitchen in the house I bought, I noticed it is bubbling up in some spots. The walls were washed before painting as there was lot of greese everywhere. Could it be that some greese got soaked in so bad that cleaning made it stay? Was not me that cleaned (or painted for that matter) but I'm pretty sure the cleaning product used was VIM.

What paint are you using? Did you prime? Best to prime with a sealing primer with these conditions.

The paint is Moore Spec, and no we did not prime, imo we should have probably done the whole wall just to be safe. Only primed small spots where plaster was used.

More than likely it is first coat of paint failing and the new paint on top of it pulls as it dries causing bubbles. If that is the case, priming probably won't help. Primer shrinks as it dries too so it can pull bubbles as well. They may go away and they may not. If they don't go away, pop one and see if it is a bubble all the way down to the drywall.

I have had the same issue. For me a good primer seem to eliminate the issue. I have never had the problem again. The primer was the key for me.

I was not sure what caused my problem though...

Too late now as the cabinets are already being installed, and the affected areas wont really be noticable, but I'll know for future to just prime everything to be safe. Would something like kilz pretty much ensure this wont happen?
