Paint for basement wall
Our new basement to us is in need of paint. The previous owner left some less than desirable spray paint art works on the walls.

The walls are stone (1915 house), but were cover with concrete at some point. On top of the concrete is a white paint. Both the concrete and paint are in great shape without flaking or chipping. The basement has been dry for us and does not show any evidence of water issues.

What type of paint should be used? Would primer and paint work best?

Attached are pictures of the wall and the only place I could find chipped (to show layers).

I have had really good luck with the Sherwin Williams masonry line LOXON.

Tool- Loxon is a great masonry product, but because it already has paint on it, wouldn't that be overkill?

It has been a while since I have used it. But don't they have just a paint in that line, not just the conditioner. Maybe I misspoke and am thinking of something else.

You're right- Loxon is a masonry paint. But I thought it was mostly effective on raw cement so it could penetrate a little, and still breath- but once coated, almost any latex would work.

Not enough use with it myself- But I don't thing the OP would have any problem using it. The main thing about a wall like that is some humidity will try and pass through it because it is a very porous wall, and if you seal it too tight the moisture will pop the paint off. So a breathing paint is best.

So what's the verdict?

My own walls are the same thing and as long as there is no moisture present, I just paint mine with normal wall paint and 123 or in my case Fresh Start,as a primer.
