Hi, has anyone used an oxidizing stain on wood to give it a weathered look? I hear you can use white vinegar or tea with shredded steel wool to make the stain. Any thoughts or tips would be welcome. I was able to find some old birch planking and want to distress it and give it a weathered look. Thanks again, kevin
Just about anything will be better than what is suggested. Shreded steel wool in liquid will turn into a rusty mess. Maybe try watered down latex paint watered down a lot it should be like a white wash. Try looking up milk paint this may be what you are looking for.
I have used Cabot's Bleaching oil on a home and deck. It will start out as a light grey stain, and over time naturally bleach it to a driftwood look. Exterior stains are high maintenance products so you need to decide if you want to go down that road.
