over saturated blue

I just had my ceiling painted blue, and the density of the color is almost neon. The actual color is OK, but it is oversaturated. Any ideas how I can tone it down? Sponge a lighter blue, white, or gray on it, maybe?

John, you could tone it with sponge/rag of a color glaze. However, it won't be so easy if the blue is flat. I did a job recently where I worked with a faux decorator to do the same thing in a large master bath with salmon walls, and we did it with white. Looked great. The salmon was still there, but not so much. It was exactly what she wanted. You might get some more and better feedback next door at the interior decorating forum, there's probably some faux decorators who hang out there.
