I thought latex meant oil. Oops!
I mixed 1 gallon of boiled linseed oil with 5 gallons of Olympic acrylic latex solid stain. I realized my mistake a little late. When I mixed them they seemed to blend well. The finish is glossy but slightly tacky after 5 days.
It seemed to adhere good, and looks really good. I guess I'll find out what going to happen.
About 10 years ago I was on a church project to paint the exterior of a men's recovery home. One guy was in charge of prepping all the paint.
After the day was over I went to clean my brush and it wouldn't clean with water. ???? Then I tried thinner, and it wouldn't clean it either. ????
So I asked the mix guy what kind of paint were we using 'cause I can't get my brush clean. He then admitted that he mixed latex and alkyd together...sheesh.
And to think he had borrowed his boss'es brand new Graco.
The brush I was using cleaned up with ease. Soap and water.
I just got an e-mail from Olympic. They said it might not weather good or could peel, or it might dull up or have a mildew problem. He also said it might be ok. I don't see it peeling since it adhered like glue, but it may dull up.
It's had 6 dry days to set, it's raining now.
If it looks real bad, vinyl siding may be going on earlier than I expected.
I hope it works out, but to be truthful...it's hard to be optimistic.
