Old Plastic Christmas Decorations

Hello there folks. I have a question for all those folks over the age of 25. Do you remember all those plastic Christmas decorations we used to have that lit up? My In-Laws have a Santa Train that could use a new paint job. I was just wondering if anyone knew which paint was best to use that would still let the light shine through? I would love for my children to see what it looks like all light up the way I remember these things lit up when I was a kiddo. Thank you.
