Old paint on unprimed walls?
Help! We have just moved into an old house (1950's), and decided to paint the lounge room. It turns out the previous owners have painted straight onto the plaster without priming it first, so the paint is bubbling off the walls. I've removed all the bits that are bubbling/flaking, but whenever I reach an edge of a sanded/bubbled area, the paint keeps lifting off around the edges, so I have to keep going.
Is there any way of sealing old paint onto plaster so we can just paint over it? Or even just sealing the edges of the areas that have lifted up? Thanks in advance! |

You really need to scrape those spots back further till you get to where the paint is stuck well. Then prime the bare plaster.

After scraping off all the loose paint ,skimming, sanding, cleaning,I would apply a coat of Gardz primer,It will tend to "lock down" everything and get you ready for your finish coats.
