Oil based paint vs spray can paint

I am going to paint an old file cabinet, semi gloss black. I was thinking of rattle cans but I alway get the lines when painting large areas. Then I thought what about rolling on a semi gloss oil based paint with a foam roller. Will the rolled on oil base paint dry as hard as the spray can paint? I assume so as they are both oil based. Rolling would also be a lot easier with less mess.

Thanks

Spraying gives you the finest finish. What kind of "lines" are you getting? There shouldn't be any.

Sort of like horizontal and vertical lines, I can never get a perfect finish with large areas with spray paint. Most of the surface looks good but there always seems to be an area that seems to have better coverage, think like a tick, tack, toe board.

Try backing off a bit with the spray.
