Novice mistake, how to fix it? (Paint related)

Ok, don't judge me.

I am painting an inexpensive cupboard, free standing. In aid of using my spray gun I added an oil based solvent to oil based kilz primer to help it spray. So. It sprayed, sort of. Now it won't dry. :(

How can I either encourage it to dry or remove the mess I have made?

Thanks,

D

What was the solvent, and are you sure the Kilz was oil base? Sounds like a water/ oil mix to me.

Okay, thanks for reply.

Turns out it is Zinnzer oil based and "safe solution" by Natura. Dang, says right on it 'this water based product'.

Okay, I just checked everything. Still tacky 24hrs later. Have I totally screwed up or can salvage?

Thanks,

Dione

Okay, so as to appearance, how does it look? I'm tempted to say to wipe the paint off with thinner, but that would be a mess, especially if it's a large object. Okay, I would probably leave it for a couple of days to see how it does dry, that's if it looks good. I've seen experienced painters accidentally mix oil products with latex, but it never got to the application stage so I don't know how to solve your problem, okay. Don't feel too bad. Just pray that Mr. Phooey doesn't come along and see this post. Keep us posted, okay.

Okay 36 hours later and it is touch dry and it looks fine. I am worried the primer is somehow compromised but it looks fine.

Will let it dry until tonight, supposed to be pretty hot today.

Thanks for the comments,

Dione
