im having my house painted, i was giving the option of using tread plex on my living room floors and fireplace mantle, also steps. why not just sand them down and refinish, isn't tread plex for non living areas? would it destroy the floor? (hardwood)

I am a little confused as to why they want to "paint" the floor. Is it wood or concrete?
If it's wood and is stained/polyurethane, then sanding and refinishing is always the best way to go. if it's already painted, then you should just continue with the same. The issue with the Tread-Plex is that it has a fine texture added to it (anti slip) that over time will collect dirt and be harder to clean.

If the floor surface is concrete, then painting it is the best solution. The same goes for the texture here as well.

Otherwise, the Tread-Plex is an industrial coating that will hold up very well.
