new process or product for re staining or painting wood cabinets

I just saw a home for sale that the decorator had taken older maple cabinetry and darkened it to look like Mahogony..wood grain still showed and it looked great did not look painted but I was told it is a point process? Does anyone know what the process and product is?

it is very easy to make maple stain to the color of mahogany. but point process has nothing to do with refinishing.

Point Process:
A spatial-temporal point process (also called space-time or spatio-temporal
point process) is a random collection of points, where each point represents
the time and location of an event.
