New DIY’er - Trying to paint kitchen cabinets BLACK

I’m planning on painting my kitchen cabinets black and I’ve never done it before so I’m looking for some advice and I’ve got a couple questions….

I have wood cabinets, which have never been painted and I was planning on using a palm sander before I got started… is that ok/necessary?

Do I need a primer or can I just use a good paint?

What type of paint should I use?

Would I need to use polyurethane afterwards?

Here's a picture of the cabinets

Thanks

A good oil stain blocking primer and BM waterborne satin impervo would be my choice but for a home owner with limited painting experience, you're kitchen cabnets would not be a good place to start.

W/B satin impervo is a great product but unfortunately it doesn't come in black - the oil S/I comes in Black. In a latex you could use the 309 line - which is the high gloss or you can use the 363 line which is the Low Lustre metal and wood enamel. All good products.

Palm sand, then use a sponge sanding pad.

Yes to the Primer. As mentioned, Oil Based.

What type of paint should I use?

Latex with a sheen. No need for a Poly.

Would I need to use polyurethane afterward

Hope this is of some help...........Good Luck.................

You'e right,I did not even think about that. The oil would be even better, but then again for a DYI project, the kitchen cabnets still would not be the best place to learn.
