new cedar fencing-jus want to retain the light colored look

Do not want the nice light colored wood to turn into gray after few years. Do not want fencing to turn darker after application--saw ome horror stories about this on websites. What should I buy that is reasonable in price???

Any of the major stain lines will have more or less clear sealers but all may discolor somewhat. Not sure about Cabot now that it has gone box store. Used to be great stuff. You can mix 1:1 mineral spirits and processed, not raw, lindseed oil or buy similar oil sealers with UV protection added. They may yellow some though.

What you want to be sure to avoid are wax based products like Thompon's Water Seal as they can grow mold under the surface and the wax can interfere with future treatments. You will be lucky to get one season out of the water seal product too.

Do plan to be diligent about sealing as needed. Depending on climate and exposure, your experience with any sealer may vary from what the manufacturer states as life expectation.

A product with a very slight amount of pigment in it may help even out any color inconsistencies without darkening the cedar too much.

No such animal, vegetable or mineral to accomplish what you want. Only way is to be outside with an orbital sander for the rest of your life. Go with Ready Seal light brown color and be ready for work every other year.
