Moulding - Mix painted & stained?

Can anyone tell me if it's acceptable to have one room with painted trim & an adjoining room with stained trim? If so, how does one go about transitioning it at the doorway?

It is acceptable. The trasition is at the door stop on the door jamb, same place where the carpeting transtions.

Door stop is a piece of trim around the whole door jamb that the door rests against when it's closed.

stained and painted trim

I had to laugh because we're only about 20 percent of the way through with stripping paint off of old woodwork in our house (to then stain), so we have lots of paint meeting stained wood issues. But, ideally, I think it should all be one or the other. Personal preference, I know... but it's a cleaner look as you look through the house and from one room to the next. We'll get there in 5 years or so! good luck!
