Guys I apologize, there may very well be another post in here detailing this but i simply dont have the time to look through 8,000 posts.
I just bought an 88 fleetwood and the old owner had let the roofing go too long before replacing , so i now have stains in various areas in the acoustic type ceiling. There is no sagging and the joint covers are in good shape and while i would love to replace it with drywall after paying cash for the home im trying to save some money where i can. will this type of ceiling accept paint easily and what type primer. Im considering kilz or zinnser also as im wanting just a flat white do i need just the primer or do i have to go over it with ceiling paint?
If by acoustic ceiling, you mean something like this?
If so I would go with a flat latex ceiling paint. However you have water stains and need shellac based BIN primer and depending on how many stains you have you might want to prime the whole ceiling. Also, that type of ceiling will soak in a lot of paint so throw all coverage estimates out the window.
Latex Primer: Good for Drywall, that's about it.
Behr Paint: The plastic buckets are good, that's about it.
