Mechanical paint sprayer?

You know those garden sprayers that you pump by hand? Do they make any paint sprayers like that? I have a Graco that I use to spray large areas, but if I want to paint one piece of garden furniture, I feel like it's almost not even worth it to pull out the sprayer with all the setup and clean up that I'd have to do. I feel like something like a mechanical pump sprayer would be perfect in a situation like this, but I've never seen one. Anyone know if these exist? If not, off to the patent office I go!

Not going to happen. To get an even spray you need a constant consistat flow of paint.
Google "HVLP". They make them with about a qt. container on them that works for small jobs like that.

Thanks for your responses guys!

Thanks for your suggestion, Joe. I have two HVLP guns. Unfortunately, I only have a 2.5 gallon air compressor which is not enough. Once it's full, I can spray for about 10 seconds before it starts kicking back on to fill up. At that point, the pressure is too low to get a good even spray. Maybe I'm doing something wrong though?

If it is plastic garden furniture you probably want to use something like Krylon Fusion for plastics anyhow? It only comes in rattle cans. In any event, rattle cans do a decent job on small furniture projects. Even large ones if you are careful.

You can get compressed air canisters to go with some hobby airbrushes and sprayers. I don't think you could expect consistent enough pressure and flow rate with a garden pump type sprayer although some use them for deck stains.
Thanks, yeah, I saw people applying deck stains with a garden sprayer, so I thought to myself, "Man, that would be awesome if they had something like that for paint."

To maintain even pressure, there would be a pressure regulator with an automatic shut-off. You'd pump it up, set your desired pressure for spraying, and spray away at a consistent pressure. Then, once the pressure regulator detects a drop in the set pressure, it will stop spraying all together.

Perhaps it's harder to create in real life than it is in my head :whistling2:

Ive had that problem!

I'm interested- most HVLP ( not conventional) have their own compressor , not an air tank. And the whole point of HVLP is High Volume Low Pressure,
Originally invented as an add on to a home vacuum!

But i agree for a small one time project a rattle can would do you .
A good HVLP is spendy.

HVLP is high volume, low pressure. Volume relates to the size of your storage tank on your compressor, a 2.5 gallon tank has a hard time keeping up with the volume of air the gun demands. Smaller tips, material reduction and hose length all play into how a gun performs. I would get a bigger compressor or better yet grab a spray can of your favorite color and paint your project using several light coats vs thick heavy ones. Paint in the shade and follow label directions.

Good luck.

..my hvlp ( Capspray 9100) has no tank. or any HVLP that I've seen..
You have turbine unit with an HVLP gun attached. Since the turbine is constantly running there is no need for a storage tank. Go to any body shop, large cabinet shop and you will a plethora of gravity fed HVLP guns that use compressors. In fact the manufacturer of your unit offers several HVLP guns of this type.
