Maintenance for oak cabinets

What do I use to clean the oak cabinets in my kitchen. They have a polyurethene varnish finish. Will something like Murphy's oil soap product or an Old English oil harm the finish? The cabinets were hand made for us by a friend and don't want the type of cleaner to harm the finish.
