looking for paint techniques

Hi there,

I have a couple of ideas, but would like input from anyone who's tried (succesfully or not).

We have a room in our house which started as a screen porch and evolved into a sunroom w/the help of the previous owners. However, they left the vinyl siding on the interior walls. -Kind of neat, but I'm thinking of painting it. My idea is this:

paint a brown to emulate a weathered wood, then dry brush of lightly paint w/a forest type green, to give the look of an old farm house, cottage, etc.
Any idea if this will work?

Second, my wife an I really like the "oil-rubbed bronze color that seems to be on everything in Lowes/HD :-). Any idea how one could "paint" such a surface....maybe w/the use of browns, blacks and a cloth?

Thanks in advance,

R Davis

I haven't tried the techniques you mentioned for the finished look, so I can't advise you on that. But, I believe painting vinyl siding is unusual and may require a special primer or treatment in order to get good adhesion of your topcoat. And, sorry, I don't know what product(s) you need to properly prime that siding. Just wanted to mention it, in case you hadn't thought about the special requirements, if any, for painting vinyl.

Actually, as long as it is clean, a good grade of paint will stick to that vinyl siding (Sherwin WIlliams Super Paint will work). Play around with a few different layers in a small area first to make sure you like the combo- then paint the large scale...

Make sure that the store knows you are painting vinyl. IIRC, SW has special colors for Vinyl if you choose deep colors, even if you use regular paint.

Yes and no. It's not that critical if the siding is inside like this application..

Thanks to all. Given all the concerns, would it be best to just drywall? :) I was simply looking for ways to give the room character (seperate from remaining rooms), but I want to make the room look as nice as possible.
