Looking for 3M product ?

Several years ago I used a white, light weight, filler that was sold by 3M. I believe it was sold for repairing drywall or plaster but I found that it also worked with wood. It sanded and "worked" very well.

I know that 3M often drops successful products when they do not meet profit requirements. Perhaps this product was sold and now available from someone else?

If you want a product that sticks well to wood, dries fairly hard but is still sandable, try "water putty".

When you buy plywood, and the knots are cut out and filled, it's water putty that they fill those cut-outs with because it shrinks very little as it dries.

Every hardware store will carry water putty. You just mix it with water to make a slurry and use it like joint compound.

I agree with the water putty. I used it for the first time a few weeks ago to repair some window casing and it worked great.

Thanks for your suggestions! I am aware of the product you describe. I believe it is gypsum in powder form for mix with water. The drawback to this type of product is grain raise in wood. Thanks again!
