Kitchen Color HELP!!

We're having a hard time finding a good color for our backsplash wall in our kitchen.

We've gone with bright white cabinets and stainless long handles. Black / Slate Countertop w/ pretty much black & white appliances. Currently with off-white walls.

Its a smaller sized kitchen and we're afriad with the black and white it's going to look very compact. We got a euro look vision happening I think.

What would the best color be for a backsplash?

Should the colours on the wall change to match the cabinets (Bright White)??

Any pictures! Share them

Thanks

Well honestly the first thing that comes to mind is...bright red! I know it sounds crazy, but there's something about combining white, red, and black. You also said you're going for a euro-look, and that would do it. The colors are totally contemporary and very invigorating.

Red doesn't necessarily stimulate the appetite the way that orange does, but it is a very lively, powerful color. If you're going for a bold statement that will wake you up every time you walk in the room, think about going with red.

Good luck!

I understand. I would have ran the granite up that back splash but that expensive. I would recomend doing something with tile. It might also be a good ideal to ask a interior designer there thoughts. I don't think they would charge much just to come over and answer that question. You see I see your kitchen its sharp good look. White cabinets black granite countertops thats sharp. Slick it you will. Your cheapening the look by painting that back splash in my oppion.

Just one quick comment on the bright red. I've seen on a couple of occassions now where someone goes to sell a house, potential buyers come in and are instantly turned off by red paint. It really is bizarre how it makes them ignore the rest of the house but it is all too common. I'm not saying not to paint it red. I would just suggest that if you do go with that color, repaint it a neutral color down the road, if/when you decide to sell.

Just had to add my $0.02 to this one since "red paint" makes me shudder a bit now.

I totally agree, Chris. It depends on what your ultimate goal is with the space. If you are thinking of selling in the near future, then a more neutral color is the safer, more commercial move. If you're doing it to satisfy only your own, personal requirements, then feel free to paint it red, gold, green, pink...you get the idea.

I think adding some color is a good idea and the red and orange sounds pretty good. However I have to agree with the other posts in that too much red might not be a good thing. My 2 cents worth would be to maybe use white tiles for most of it with a "slash" --- I think that's a designer term :) of color by adding a few red and maybe orange tiles here and there.
