keeping stains off of white exterior railings

Hi Everyone,

I have exterior white wood railings that I am repainting today. Just realized that on my old railings my cat often jumps on them and leaves muddy foot prints.

Is there some type of coating i can put on top of the paint that might help prevent stains or at least help me clean them up?

Thank you for the help!

I use an enamel paint because I know it's going to have to scrubed all the time and enamel is really tough paint.
There is no magic stain repellant.

Hah! Okay, thanks for the help. I picked up your standard Behr exterior paint. Hopefully that holds up well enough.

Can you take it back? And buy paint store paint?

Another option is an exterior marine white poly finish. It is pricey and may be overkill though. A good, quality, paint store paint should do the trick.

You won't have to worry about cleaning the Behr paint. It will peel off and you will be recoating it every 3 months.

I agree with the others on taking the paint back. The key is quality, enamel, and I would say semi or gloss for washability.
