Just Painted Cabinets...Chipping?
Hi all. First time...long time...
I very recently re-painted my old bathroom cabinets a beautiful rich brown, only to notice the paint chipping in random places about 24 hours later. I painted over the paint that was already there (an old, white, nasty looking paint). I cleaned them off quite well beforehand, but it just doesn't seem to be taking. The paint I used was valspar, from Lowe's.
Should I have removed the old paint first, sanded, etc, and then repainted? If so, I have no idea how to do any of that :)
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Well like many lessons you have definately learned the hard way, always have to prep before you paint, and cabinets take more prep.
Sanding, cleaning, priming, sanding, cleaning and multiple applications of the finish coat with sanding and cleaning between coats. Best results with oil based products.
