Jay (Deck stain question)

Has deck been stripped neutralized and cleaned? What sealer was used last?
What type wood?

I use Ready Seal, and Armstrong Clark. Use either on about 250 decks per year.

Jay (Deck stain question)

Like Randy said, a deck needs to be properly stripped, cleaned, neutralized and brightened before a stain is even applied. These are critical steps that most DIYers skip and also a lot of company's that claim to be deck restoration pros skip or are not even aware of the proper steps in deck restoration. We use Sikkens SRD a lot.

HousepaintingNY, we used to use Sikkens but when the formula changed most customers did not keep up the schedule and we were forced to abandon it. That is when we switched to Ready Seal. Loved the Sikkens but if not redone within 18 months it could become a nightmare.

I have a local vendor for Sikkens and I still get an oil base stain. Ready seal is a good stain too. You're right, most customers want to stretch there deck stain out and not keep up on maintenance as they should.
