Issues w/ SW SuperPaint
This paint is cracking in several areas just over a week from application (see photos).
This is a repaint job. The substrate, which is rough-cut lumber siding with high texture, was scrubbed to remove dirt and mildew spots, dried, repaired, spot primed the areas repaired, dried again, and then painted with SuperPaint. Two coats of paint were applied by brush within two days one from the other, following the instructions on the label. No painting was done in direct sun light. I am very concerned about the paint cracks and fissures in the highly textured areas because these areas are prone to water accumulation and if wood is exposed it may rot in time if exposed to adverse conditions for long time. This is a 25-year warranty extaerior paint, and I do not see any reason for it to crack in such a short time after application. Can someone identify the cause of paint cracking? How can I fix it? Has anyone else had problems with SW SuperPaint??? Let me know. Chip |

I don't use Super Paint enough to know if that's a common problem or not
I really don't care for the stuff...partly because I often see that sort of thing on exteriors with it...so...maybe that's sort of an answer If that was prepped properly before the SP, I'm sure a coat of Duration would fix it |

Was the siding brand new resawn or old? Was it pressure washed prior to painting and if so how long did it dry before painting? What kind of primer did you use? How many coats? How heavy of a coat was applied? Sprayed? Back brushed? That will help to determine possible reasons...
Bay Area Painting Company Ooops- sorry- reread post- some answers there already. What kind of patching was used? Last edited by Da Vinci; 08-15-2007 at 11:50 PM. |

Absolutely Although I mentioned I don't care for Super Paint, I do like Ben Moore's MoorGlo/Soft/Gloss and Pittsburgh's Manor Hall very much Duration is even better then those It is thick, and some don't care to work with it, but it is superior |

I was not aware that Timeless was a sub-line of Manor Hall Pittsburgh doesn't have a ton of support out here (I'm basically on an island), so it's tough to get new info and product As happy as I am with manor Hall, I wouldn't hesitate to try a sub-line of it |

I cant say for sure without doing a little investigating or scrapping but it looks like this is the substrate repair problem not paint problem.SP is a 25 year warranty but the repair has to be also a 25 year warranty and done right.
If the substrate pulls loose then what ever is on top of it also pulls loose. I have never seen SP form cracks like that for no reason. SP will protect your substrate very well but will not fill in cracks.Hope this helps a little. |
