i dont know what exact color is my drywall

I have a 2-yr old house and I was given "small squares samples" that exactly match the color of my house. I lost those samples.

what is the best way to buy the exact color of my drywall?

do you mean paint?

I'd go to a paint store with an actual chip of the paint I would want matched. maybe there is an area that is "hidden" and painted, such as a closet or behind molding ?

To avoid this in the future. When I paint a room, I paint the back of the light switch plate too. This way, if for some reason I need to match the color I have a large sample that's easy to find and carry around. Be sure to note the sheen.

A BEHR Color Smart or Sherwin Williams Colorsnap Studio app might be a possible solution.

You have to cut out a piece of the drywall paper from somewhere and bring it to the paint store. The drywall has to be patched of course, if it's visible.

Capture a picture by your mobile or digital camera and show that in the paint store keeper. It wil be helpful to find out colour.

For a sample in a closet behind a light switch maybe or if there is already a damaged area you can ger a piece with the color on it. The sample only needs to be the size of a quarter. I never had any luck with pictures or those apps.
