Question

How to stain a painted fireplace?

I have a fireplace that is the cast type, similar to this:
http://www.flamedepot.com/images/Kington.JPG

but the home builder painted it white. I want to apply a faux finish to it. Can I apply stain on top of the paint? Or should I look at faux wall paints?

Thanks!!!

You cannot stain over paint The paint has already sealed the pores of the wood.
