How to Remove stucco ceiling

Hi

I Was watching tv yesterday and saw them spray something on the Ceiling and all the stucco just scraped off.

I want to do the same here and get rid of it,The home was built into 1989

What do I look for at the Hardware store and whats the Best Brand of spray to use.

Also will the Drywall get ruined as it will soak it up

The person that lived here before us smoked bad and the ceiling is "yellow"

It has to go

Thanks for the help

You are not in California,

Most of the houses out here have Stucco covering the Outside of the house. Stucco is a weatherproof cement plaster, what you have is a Popcorn Ceiling, more properly called an Acoustical ceiling which does not contain cement.

Here are some links:

yes, get a spray bottle. put plain water in it. Spray on ceiling. Scrap.

There will be damage to the ceiling from scrapes and things. Specifically where the joints of the drywall were mudded before. Very easy to scrape those a bit. But if you are careful damage should be minimal.

But it is a very messy job.
