How to remove painted grass-cloth wallpaper?

Yes, it is going to be a difficult task, I know :-( I'm thinking to strip the paint first, to make water penetrate into the wallpaper, then let the wallpaper soak, say, in hot water. The wallpaper is on the sheetrock. Do you think paint strippers like "Citristrip 1 qt. Safer Paint and Varnish Stripping Gel" from Home depot work fine and won't damage drywall? Any experience? Or better solutions?

Do not use a paint stripper.
Use one of these.

Mist the wall down with warm water and a dash of liquid fabric softner let it soak in and start scraping.

Thanks. My concern is if that Paper Tiger can damage a drywall... Some people say that it can... Should it be used just to scratch the paint layer and not to go deeper?

You have a layer of paint then a layer of grass, most likly it's not even going to get down to the drywall.

There are different thicknesses/weave of grass, and also how heavily painted is it?
I Hate the Tiger for the reason you give, but if the grass is thick and so is the paint, might be OK.
Another way is get real rough sandpaper- I use the belt from a belt sander at 30 grit- , cut it and put it on a hand sander. Cut through the paint with that.

paint stripper will be a nightmare. You have to think out of the box on this one. I have had success dragging a saw sideways on just this same situation. As mention very course sander paper ,anything to open the grass cloth and get it soaking. Of course with out seeing who knows. But I will tell you . I have done one of these last year and it was an easy strip.

I agree it will not be as hard as it looks, but it will be a mess.
I have also taken a wallpaper razor scraper and hurt the top of it with that.
A bug sprayer to get it wet is also helpful

The paper tiger will work on the grass cloth( good one Joe!)

You are only breaking the paint surface so the HOT water can get to the grass a SOAK it
Brushes sandpaper idea works well also

Because the grass holds the water so well it is actually one of the easiest papers to remove

How to remove painted grass-cloth wallpaper?

Thanks for you suggestions. I've just tried to cut into the wallpaper and then apply cloth with hot water for an hour, but it looks like that water didn't penetrate well. Just within half of inch around the cut. Is it usual or I did something wrong? Or Paper Tiget will be more efficient?

By the way, what is wrong with striper? Is there any difference between liquid and gel striper? Neither of them helps, you think? I just hope to get more area for hot water to penetrate through, not just along the cut... I didn't try rough sandpaper though...

Wallpaper thickness is about 1/16'', paint layer is very thin, though there are some paint bumps. Not sure if it is useful info...
