In a bathroom that has poor ventilation, the former owners had painted the ceiling with a thick sponge-textured paint that now is peeling badly.
Some pieces of paint the size of a post-it note snap off easily. Other sections can be scraped clear of paint with a putty knife. But in some areas the paint is very stubborn and won't budge, yet after a month or two, start to peel.
What is a good non-toxic (if possible) product for removing the stubborn paint?
Remove any/all loosely adhering paint (scrape and sand)
Coat whole area with a specialty penetrating primer (Like Zinsser's Gardz)
Repair any un-even areas with joint compound (skim, sand, and wipe clean then re-prime)
Coat with 2 coats quality self-priming bath paint (Like Zinsser's Perma-White, Sherwin Williams or Benjamin Moore's K&B, or BM's Aura or Spa & Bath)
