How to protect semi gloss latex paint on wall

Hi all...need hyour professional advice...my son is painting a mural on his high school's wall (approx. 30' X 12&quot...the paint that was on there was a glossy oil based paint (we just found out)...he did not sand or prime before painting his mural with latex semi-gloss and gloss paint...he's spent alot of time doing this and restarting is really not an option...he noticed today when he was scratching off some debris that the paint scraped off (not easily but with a little effort)...we are tryin g to avoid this obviously in the future as he wants the mural to last for many years...Our question: Is there any way to protect the mural with any sealant or water based polyurethane so that his work is not easily scratched off and could even be cleaned by light cleaners if necessary...thank you in advance for any advice you can offer...my email address is: Chris_Lorenc429@yahoo.com

Yoou could try this

Benwood® Stays Clear® Acrylic Polyurethane Low Lustre 423

A premium quality product that combines the attributes of polyurethane and acrylic to produce a clear, durable, non-yellowing finish. Finished surface provides high resistance to abrasion and protection against alcohol, water, and most household chemicals and stains.
