Question

How to properly store paint?

Is there a "right way" to store left over paint?

I have about 1/4 can of paint left from our den, and maybe 2 cups left of another color. Is there a way I can store it so that I have it available for touch-ups later? How long will it last in the can? I have left over paint from other projects that are sitting in my office - they are probably 2 years old. Will it still be good to use as long as it's mixed thoroughly?

Thanks!

How to properly store paint?

A cool, dry, but not freezing, place is best.

How long will it last? Good question. My best guess would be: Until it molds, mildews, smells rank, or looks a funny color.

Storing the can upside down can help prevent the formation of a "skin", and prevent the lip from rusting, but only do that if you are real confident of the condition of the lid.

It will last longer if you put it in smaller jars

How to properly store paint?

You mean stacking it five cans deep behind my water heater is not the best way to store it?
