I used some aluminum that I purchased from Lowes made by Steelworks, and I'm wondering what prep-work needs to be done, and what type of primer to get, how many layers to apply, and what type of paint to get.
I'm looking to if possible buy all the needed materials from Lowes, Home Depot or Walmart if possible. My aluminum does have some dirt on it and some permanent marker writing on it from my measurements.
If it's bare aluminum you need a primer specified for aluminum. Not sure what the big boxes carry for that. Follow the cleaning and application instructions on the can, important. Apply the primer ASAP after the cleaning, as aluminum oxidizes quickly. A primer followed by two finish coats should do fine.
Permanent marker might come off with Goof Off, or other solven. Either that, or you may have to apply a different primer, after aluminum primer, to block that as it may bleed through the finish.
