How can I re-finish my deck?
Hey.
So we have a deck outside and I want to re-paint it with a semi-transparent or a clear finish stain. But the problem is, is that it's a little rough, and it was previously painted with a paint, and the top is pealing. The bars around it are also painted but the floor is not. (It's sort of a light coffee paint). So I'm wondering whats the best way to do this? Should I do some sanding, and just paint the stains over the current paint? |

A good powe rwasher with the right nozzle can peel paint pretty well. Especially if it is already peeling off

It is best to prep the deck first and then you will be happy with the final results.
Wash with deck cleaner, and power wash to remove grime, peeling paint, mold, etc. Let the deck dry for a day. Since it's rough wood; it would be best to sand with coarse sandpaper. Final step to repaint. Good luck |

How can I re-finish my deck?
I have had that same challenge, and I chose to pressure wash the deck, leave it sit for a week or so till it is dry, then I use a floor sander and sand the deck. Once that is done I can apply whatever I choose to use. Basically you have a new deck again. In your situation I would do the railings first and paint them prior to doing the deck itself, so as not to get paint on the deck. When you use a pressure washer to remove paint or stain it tends to leave a raised grain on your deck which is not very desirable and it tends to wear on your high spots, again not what you want.
hope that helps some cheers |
