How can I decorate a lounge wall without paint or wallpaper?

The wall is quite large and is wallpapered at the moment, but we can't steam it off as it would need replastering. The wallpaper is one of those paintable textured kinds and I really hate it, but can't afford replastering, wallpaper or paint. So how else could I decorate the wall? I thought about drapes or something but it's a living room wall so not sure? Any ideas AT ALL would be helpful thanks! :D
It's a large wall, it's not small enough to just hang a mirror or painting, or even put up a bookshelf. I don't havea bookshelf to put up, or the room :/

Tinted glasses? You want to do something, but can't do anything. That's a hard one.
And using spam as a name doesn't help much either..

Well, I was going to say put up posters because in the title you said "lounge" wall, but then you say it's a "living room" wall.

Bet you know the name Gracie Slick too! She be white though so does not need this black lighting you mention. Miss those days and do not care if people do think I am old.

Anyhow, to the post. Why are you convinced you cannot strip the wall paper? I haven't had an entire plaster wall come totally apart on me yet doing so.

Pictures would help us see what you are up against.

Not sure what to suggest in terms of things like fabric panels, posters, art or whatever without seeing your challenge.

Options, put up panelling--hang 1/4" drywall over the wall -- upholster the wall, or as you mentioned hang curtains. Anything you do will cost atleast something. If you had your wish what would you like for the finish of the wall? Once you have figured that out, come back and the forum members will walk you through the needed steps to get the look you want.

I have upholstered walls many a time and love the look, but then again I love fabric!!!!!! Just for fun I am adding a pic of a living room that was made to look like a study and I upholstered the lower half of the wall with leather look vinyl. Came out pretty cool.

Thank You very much Sdsester, that was a fun project. I built the window seat, the client wanted a place for the dog and cat to sit and look out the front window, and added the chairrail and new baseboards. She was so happy with the final look and totally loved the brass nail heads on the outside corners. Since it was below chairrail height I did not need to do any splicing on the long runs, just railroad the vinyl to the corners. Sure made it much easier.
