Help with plywood walls...

I am moving into a house that has plywood walls in the upper bedrooms. I am guessing the upstairs was never "finished" as the previous occupants never used the upstairs. I am trying to figure out an inexpensive way to make the rooms look more presentable. Someone had previously began to paint the walls with hideous colored paint and didn't finish them, and what is finished does not look very nice.

I am assuming some type of primer will be necessary before even thinking of painting. Is there a special type of primer/paint to use on plywood? I had even thought about wall murals or other types of wall coverings like wall paper but I'm not sure how well that would work either. Also both rooms have slanted ceilings on one side of the rooms.

I need ideas on how to make these rooms more "girl" friendly for my daughters. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

1/4-3/8 drywall over lay or large photo murals

We just recently bought a cottage and the bathroom had plywood walls. I bought some paintable wallpaper for the top part of the wall and painted faux wainscoting for the bottom. The plywood was in rough shape and it made the wainscoting look even better and the paintable wallpaper covers just about anything...small holes, minor cracks etc. I can send you pictures if you like. Good luck!

I recently bought a house and the bedrooms have plywood walls. I would love to see your pics! The previous owners rented the home and I am guessing the tenants allowed their kids to paint their rooms. Ick! the walls are horrid. I can't afford too much for renos so I am hoping someone could help me find out which would be better for now....paint/wallpaper or 1/4" drywall over it all?????
Thank you
