Help with aerosol spray paint!

Guys, having trouble getting a smooth finish using flat/matte black on metal! Anyone have any tips? It has a rougher surface than I'm looking for. I'm not using a textured paint, its just flat black. Could it be the brand? To much or little paint? My prepwork is good, it's either my painting technique or the paint. Thanks for any tips!!!

How is it coming out? Pictures?

Even if you are on the right track, you will still get run over if you just sit there.

And you primed it first right?
Many thin coats is far better then a few thick ones.
Flat black is tough to get to come out even.
Do not just stand there and point in one spot and spray. Short burst and keep it moving from side to side.

Run a bucket of hot tap water and submerge your cans in it for a few minutes. Heating the cans can help them spray smoother. Be safe about it though. Too much heat and they'll explode. Hot water should be safe.

^ This.

It sounds to me like you're applying the coats too heavy. When a coat of spray paint is applied too thick, it can lead to over spray resting on top of the surface, causing a rough, uneven looking finish.
