Gloss and opinions on colors.

I'm painting my new door and trim soon and was looking for a little insight.

What sort of sheen should I use for this project? I like satin but the majority online says semi gloss.

I am leaning toward a dark purple or maybe an orange. I want a change from the reds and I think those would complement the rustic hictory roof that I have.

I'm attaching some color swatches below.

Thanks everyone!

Delicious Plum

Deep Amethyst

Fresh Grape Juice

Fresh Tangerines

For deep colors like those I would without hesitation get a qt ( all you will need) of Ben Moore exterior Aura satin.

Aura Waterborne Exterior Paint - Satin Finish (631)

  • Extreme hide, never more than two coats in any color
  • Color Lock® Technology
  • Low temperature application and greatly improved resistance to surfactant leaching in dark colors
  • Superior adhesion and excellent resistance to chalking
  • Delivers a high-build paint film for excellent durability
  • Easy to apply with brush, roller or spray
  • Soap and water clean up
  • Fast dry and re-coat times
  • Resistant to fading, cracking, peeling, blistering, dirt pick-up
  • Provides a mildew resistant film
  • Self priming in most situations
