Gap between baseboard and laminate floor

Whenever I paint baseboards, I usually tape up the floor to avoid getting paint on the floor but I find that some paint always builds up in the gap between the floor and the baseboard and creates a jagged look once the tape is removed and you look at the area from a distance. Using a putty knife or razor after usually makes more of a mess trying to clean up the residual paint. I'm pretty good at cutting in on walls but not so good when it comes to the bottom of a baseboard and I don't feel comfortable brushing against the floor without tape. Any suggestions on how to avoid this or how to clean up the mess?

Is it just a matter of having the least amount of paint on the brush and cutting in as close to the floor as possible?

you could use a plastic paint edger, cost a couple bucks and found at all home improvement stores, but you have to wipe the paint off each time you move it. I just keep old rags to wipe the paint off with and you get a clean finish without the danger of removing finish from the floor by using painters tape. It really doesn't take that much longer.

Guest has a good suggestion. I use a 10 inch drywall knife if I need to.......it is a pain wiping it each time you move it, but it does work.
