Front Doors

I am tired of staining and Varathaning the front doors on my house every couple of years. Doors face east and get full sun most of the morning. I want to strip them and paint with a good quality exterior paint and hopefully not have to repeat the process for several years. I can wire brush off most of the Varathane and get to reasonably bare wood. Is this practical? Do I need to prime and what would be a good paint to use? Will the previous stain cause problems?

Thanks

Front Doors

I have no personal experience but other people rave about Fine Paints of Europe (FPE) for front doors - very high quality stuff.

Sand, clean, prime with an oil based stain blocking primer, lightly sand smooth, clean, apply exterior finish coats (2) all from a real paint store,( no big box crap) done. Should last 7 years or better
