exterior paint for wood trim

I'm no where near ready to think about painting exterior trim. But, in order to put new weatherstripping up I need to paint the wood trim around a door.

S.W. said to use 'Resilience'. Is that the best choice, in the opinion of those here?

The old paint looks good, I just want a different color, but I suppose I have to sand it a little?

thanks

Got a picture of this trim?
Why not just remove and replace with PVC and never have to worry about it again.

Maybe a light sanding, clean, topcoat with SW's Superpaint.

Or SW ASE(all surface enamel). All the paint co. have good choices for ext. trim. I personally have not had good results with box store paint. Looked good when applied but really seemed to dull quickly.

The reviews on it look pretty bad.

will post a photo tomorrow. (see below)

Joe, I wouldn't be capable of replacing the trim.

Yes, a quart is all I need for now.

The guy who used to wait on me at S.W. and who I liked the best, took a sales rep job and is no longer there, so I appreciate the advice.

Someone here, 1.5 yrs ago, when I bought this house, recommended Super Paint and I painted the entire house with it and have been very pleased. I just didn't know you could use it outside. But I'm going to use Duration.

SO, yes, SW makes an interior version and an exterior version of SuperPaint. The ext. version comes in a gold colored can, the int. version in a blue colored can. Make sure you tell them exterior!

And, finally, you may just want to buy a gallon as it is about the same price as a quart.

Oops, skip all of that, I see you are getting Duration!

If that door gets direct sun it never should have been painted that dark color.
It's going to fade, act like a heat sink and transfer the heat to the inside of the house and can do damage to the door.

It's an East door. The double garage overhead door was the same dark brown and turned very chalky orange from the south sun.

I was going with S.W.'s "Tower Tan" sample on the door, but think I want it slightly darker.

Gymschu: I won't have time to start on the overhead garage door till next spring, so should I still buy a gallon?

Yes buy the gallon when finished seal tight and will be good in the spring. Keep it somewhere so it won't freeze.
