Exterior paint and primer for hardboard (Masonite) siding?
 

My house has a small addition with hardboard siding. I'm planning on replacing a few rotted-out boards and painting the addition next month.

I'm not entirely sure what the best combination of primer and paint to use on the new boards, as well as the existing siding is. Does anyone have any advice? I don't know what what type of paint was used before, outside of the fact that it is barn-red in color.

Hi, I replaced some old asbestos siding with the Masonite stuff..... lessee, 17 years ago. It was preprimed but I went ahead and primed ALL 6 faces/edges with Glidden Gripper and top coated with Benjamin Moore Moorglo. It's still holding up but were I doing it again, I would likely have gone with Zinsser Cover Stain as a primer. :thumbsup:
