Exterior Paint Prep Order

Hello folks,

I just looked over this forum and it led me to register. I'm a newbie at painting and I have several questions. I plan on painting the our house exterior eaves (house has brick siding).
I've seen everything from wash, scrape, sand, primer, paint or scrape wash sand, caulk, paint.

My main question is what prep work and what order i should do it in?

Powerwashing can help with removal of loose paint, so I do that first
Then scraping of the rest of the loose paint
Then sanding down to smooth out any differences between the paint that's left, and the bare wood
Then primer
Then caulk, if/as needed
Then paint

Exactly as Slick stated. Chemically powerwashing is an important step to remove the years of dirt, cobwebs, and mildew build up. Also don't try to save money with cheap primer or paint. A top quality bonding primer will probabally cost about as much as your paint, but will greatly help with the longevity of your paint job.
