exterior paint

I want to keep up on the paint on my home so I got a bid and opinion on painting my relatively sun exposed home 3k sq ft front to back split. It was painted 4 years ago with Mautz and PP best flat paint from Menards. Paint fella felt I could get by with 1 coat of duration though 2 would of course provide more protection. Suggested at least a satin but even semi gloss for best protection.

Just a couple of very small peeling spots on 25 year old 12 inch cedar siding. he also would patch a couple of cracks on the wood with wood filler. Sound reasonable? No chalkiness he felt a cleaner was not even needed.

Did he give you any reason for suggesting that a semi-gloss would provide better "protection" than a satin?

Also, what does he mean by "protection"? Protection of the underlying cedar or protection from it peeling or protection from it chaulking? Protection against what?

Also, are you wanting to repaint your house the existing colour??

Sounds about right
I'd clean it though
Even if it's a quick hose down a few days before painting
